Ulihelisdi Welcome!

Keeper of the Family is a collaboration between Shining Woman (Barbara Warren) and Otsigeya, a Northern California women’s drum group. These women sing as one voice in the spirit of traditional Native music, work to promote the Cherokee language and carry the medicine of the drum. Together with other friends, they have created their first album, Keeper of the Family, which is a celebration of the power of women as keepers of the family, life-givers, and mothers of mankind.

Released in April 2016, Keeper of the Family features twenty-one original songs in Cherokee and English in both traditional and contemporary styles on two CDS:

    • Shining Woman Disc 1: 11 songs – A contemporary blend of melodic songs with 3-part harmonies and instrumentals.
    • Otsigeya Disc 2: 10 songs – A women’s drum group offering fresh, original, and inspirational women’s songs in a traditional style.
